These are exciting times at the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland
as we begin planning our move from our current location on Carnegie
Avenue to “The Triangle” at the corner of Euclid Avenue
and Mayfield Road. In our new building, in the cultural, academic
and medical hub known as University Circle, MOCA will be a prominent
and important part of the future “University Arts and Retail
District,” being spearheaded by Case Western Reserve University
and University Circle Incorporated, among other key civic, business,
and cultural partners.
Says MOCA Executive Director, Jill Snyder, “During this pivotal
time of urban renewal in University Circle, MOCA will further animate
the vibrancy of this unique urban mecca by building a new contemporary
home designed by the innovative and exciting London-based architectural
firm, Foreign Office Architects. With a mission to present the art
and ideas of our time, MOCA will add a new level of energy and creativity
to the appreciation and understanding of contemporary art.”
Complementing three seasons annually of provocative visual art exhibitions
of internationally-known contemporary artists as well as emerging
and established artists living in Northeast Ohio, our museum offers
a unique series of multi-arts programming and educational experiences.
Lectures, readings, films, performances, concerts, tours, and more
continually inspire and energize museum visitors. We uniquely reflect
a cultural zeitgeist as we engage audiences in our examination of
contemporary culture through contemporary art in all its forms.
We look forward to continuing fulfilling our mission in our new
home, planned to open sometime in 2010.
